Papermill House

Six new penthouse-style flats have been designed and built above a former 1960s office building that has been converted to residential accommodation in East London. The flats were designed for first-time buyers in an area close to the forthcoming Crossrail service enabling affordable homes within easy commuting distance of the City. Each apartment features its own private balcony and also has access to a large communal roof terrace.

Zinc standing seam cladding has been selected and pre-weathered to simulate the natural grey patina, whilst the rhythm of the new windows has been carefully controlled to match the fenestration of the existing floors below without compromising the internal layouts behind. These penthouses sit above a new pressed aluminium coping which has been introduced over the existing concrete parapet with new metal panel balustrades fixed behind.
